help with multiplying polynomials (I think...)?

Hello,
I have a problem with multiplying out algebraic expressions involving indices/polynomials.
If I have an expression such as:
(2^x + 5^x)^2
I'd go:
(2^x + 5^x)(2^x + 5^x) 2^2x + 2(5^x)(2^x) 5^2x)
Would that right? If so can the 2(5^x)(2^x) be simplified?
Second problem, similar theme:
(2^(x+1) + 5^(x+1))(2^(x1) + 5^(x1))
I'm pretty clueless about how to go about this one so any advice/links etc anyone could offer on this would be greatly appreciated.
