Hello,

I have a problem with multiplying out algebraic expressions involving indices/polynomials.

If I have an expression such as:

(2^x + -5^x)^2

I'd go:

(2^x + -5^x)(2^x + -5^x)
2^2x + 2(-5^x)(2^x) -5^2x)

Would that right? If so can the 2(-5^x)(2^x) be simplified?

Second problem, similar theme:

(2^(x+1) + -5^(x+1))(2^(x-1) + -5^(x-1))

I'm pretty clueless about how to go about this one so any advice/links etc anyone could offer on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to read and consider this.
