Subject: adult ed math professional development this summer
Dear Adult Education Instructor,
TERC is pleased to announce new and unique professional development
opportunities for adult education instructors?EMPower Professional
Development Workshops.
The TERC team is currently offering a two-day summer workshop for teachers
of ABE, preGED/ASE classes to be held at TERC in Cambridge, MA on July
26-27, 2007. Our hands-on workshop is based on the Extending Mathematical
Power (EMPower) series, an innovative math curriculum geared towards adult
learners. The EMPower curriculum fosters a pedagogy of learning for
understanding and challenges students and teachers to extend their ideas
of what it means to do math. It also promotes a learning community in
which students are encouraged to work collaboratively, explore open-ended
investigations, and share multiple ways for solving real-world problems.

The first day will focus on Geometry and Measurement, and the second on
Number and Operation Sense (with fractions, decimals, and percents). The
cost for attending our workshops is $150 per participant per day and all
materials will be provided?including the EMPower teacher and student books
for the topics (a retail value of $81.80).
Alternatively, customized trainings are available by request for
organizations with 25 or more participants who wish to host sessions at
their location.
