letter from the CB about calculators

Well, it seems as if the College Board has made a decision about the use of calculators as a reference tool - ie typing in formulas or instructions. I received a letter today (for AP Stats) that clearly stated that programs may only be used to enhance the capabilities of the calculator. It said that it would be considered unethical to use the programs as text files. The letter is dated Nov. 1997. How I wish that the College Board would let us know these things before the school year starts.
I am sending this to the AP Calc list as well, because we may also get a similar letter sometime before May 15th. I remember last year when we received a letter less than two weeks before the test.
By the way, I don't let my students use text programs during my exams, but I never have stopped them once AP time rolled around.
