I'm also curious about new students who appear at the beginning of the year.
I had several this year. I did not give assignments for summer work, but I
did give a long fact sheet of formulas and trig identities for them to fill
in and be ready to answer quick quizzes by the 2nd class meeting. Some were
prepared and others found out what I meant in a hurry, but they all knew
them well by the end of the 2nd week. (5 class meetings in althernating
block schedules). I gave a short quiz on 10 of these every day for about
the first 3 weeks.
