"Obvious but hard to prove"

So far as I can tell, the only complete correct proof of the
proposition was provided by Z. Karno. Others are wrong or incomplete.
This is not surprising because the theorem does appear to be obvious,
while the proof by Karno is surprisingly complicated. I am going to
submit this problem to the Monthly with appropriate credit. Thanks to
all who answered.
