How cool was that...I can't stand it! Only people like ourselves could like that!!! I am going to show my Basic Geometry kids that as we just covered the Pythagorean Theorem.

Whenever possible I try to teach kids about wonderful patterns relating to Pythagorean triples.
Look at this infinite list of triples, beginning with 3 4 5:
3 4 5 5 12 13 7 24 25 9 40 41
Questions for students: What patterns do you notice as you look down the columns? Based on these columns, what patterns do you recognize? What is 3 squared? (9) Can you name two consecutive numbers with a sum of 9?(4 and 5 hey, wait a minute!) What is 5 squared? (25) Can you name two consecutive numbers with a sum of 25? (12 and 13  Wow! Does this happen all the time?) Do you see any patterns building?
