Dear Carol,
I have enjoyed your dialogue. I have an Eisenhower consultant position in a very, very poor county of Virginia. I will leave Sunday for two weeks. From past experience and from present contact with the teacher that will be my aide, I am learning that there are many different teacher cultures. Teaching the adults that I will work with will necessitate that I learn about them and address their needs, not necessarily what I think that they need. Yet, I am hired to teach them content and pedagogy based on the Virginia SOL's (Standards of Learning).
This causes me much thinking about myself and how I can best serve these very poor, very dedicated rural teachers. --
Cheers!
Karen Dee
