I've run Student Version 7.1 (R14 SP3) on a previous laptop with Vista 32bit Business just fine for a couple of years. I recently switched laptops, with my current one running Vista Ultimate (32 bit) and specs given below. When I start Matlab, the splash screen comes up, and there is a "ping" or "ding" heard after a second or two, followed by nothing. Yes, the start-up hangs. Task Manager shows Matlab using 0% of the CPU after this 'ding' for as long I keep Matlab running (e.g. until I "End Process" in Task Manager) . I've added the "MATLAB_RESERVE_LO" environmental variable to 0 (a possible soln found while searching), and I've tried loading Matlab when booted into Safe Mode. Unfortunately, none of these solutions work. In addition, it doesn't matter if I choose "Run as Administrator", or any of the "Compability Mode" settings - nothing will allow Matlab to load for more than a second or two. I've tried to start Matlab via command prompt using the various switches (-nojvm, etc), but I haven't had success there either. There are a slew of java.log.#### files in the TEMP directory associated with each failed startup, and I've pasted the contents of the most recent failed startup (every startup is failed) below. It is worth noting that I also have Matlab 2008B installed on this same computer, but using 2008B requires that I VPN into my academic institution's network, and my GUI progs that I've coded (~10,000 lines of code) in SR7.1 don't work in 2008B. So, I really want to get the 7.1 R14 SP3 version working. Both SV7.1 and 2008B worked happily together a few weeks ago on my older laptop. Any help? I've tried reinstalling, but that didn't fix it. License validation and activation worked just fine during/after installation.
