Should Standardized Tests Be Optional? 7/21/00 http://www.policy.com/news/dbrief/dbriefarc763.asp Some colleges are starting to move away from requiring the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), citing concerns about the test's fairness and whether its role in finding the right candidates is overemphasized. The debate over the SAT began heating up in the 1980s, when it was revealed that black and Latino students scored significantly lower on the test than their white and Asian counterparts.
