I am sorry to report the death--due to cancer--of an excellent math
teacher and math educator, James Harpel, of Greater St. Louis. For some
years, Jim was Director of the National Gifted Program "Project MEGSSS"
[Mathematics Education for Gifted Secondary School Students]. While we
were still developing the Comprehensive School Mathematics Program at
CEMREL, Jim was one of our fine young staff members who contributed so
much to the curriculum. Jim was a dedicated worker and had a very good
sense of humor. Looks like he decided to go out with the Listserve! He
will be missed by many.

Jim will be remembered on Saturday, September 2nd, at Green Trails
Methodist Church at 14237 Ladue Road.
