Al Coons deserves thanks for his detailed account from all of us who could not be at the San Diego meeting.
Two observations:
Can anyone confirm whether Minitab output will be the only computer output on the AP exam? Representing an alternative approach -- resampling -- and another software package (Resampling Stats), I can say that I would find this distressing, if true.
I would like to second and reinforce the remarks about "mathematical sophistication" not being essential for statistics students. The hard parts of mathematical statistics - probability and distributional formulas, as well as the use of mathematical symbols (as opposed to English sentences) - are non-essential elements of statistics and a diversion. The same ends can be accomplished in a more understandable fashion through simulation and resampling (which probably have been the preferred route had computers been around 100 years ago).
