I've enjoyed this group for the one week I have been a
subscriber. I too am a first year teacher and a first year AP Stat
teacher and thoroughly appreciate all your comments/suggestions/lesson
plans/technology updates!

Since our texts have not arrived, I have been teaching out of
Moore's Second Edition of "Intro to the Practice of Statistics" and doing
a little of my own jive. Thanks to the m&m suggestion, the class has
really taken off! We have found the distributions to be very skewed
(from our little sample size of 18). We took the data from each color
and made histograms. The students grasped histograms and the concept of
distributions so easily! They now have all volunteered to bring in more
data (i.e. peanut, almond and peanut butter m&m's). We have even touched
on Quality Control this early in the year.

To make a long story short--the m&m idea has saved me--creating
its own text with motivation and interest to keep the students going
for weeks to come!
