Since we are all in the same boat (no sample AP tests) it would be a great idea if each AP Stats teacher would contribute a couple sample multiple choice questions for everyone to share. If we all do this, we could develop quite a nice test bank. To set a good example, here are four that I created/modified. Please let me know if you think they are too easy or have any other problems. I hope this will encourage other teachers to contribute. It would sure help me out quite a bit.
On a side note, I recently assigned a bivariate data project to my kids and had to veto almost half of their initial topics. It is really important to discuss their topics with them ahead of time so they do not analyze categorical data or waste time collecting other useless data.

1. The population of a bacteria colony is determined to grow exponentially. An alert statistician transforms the data by taking the log (base 10) of the population. The least squares regression line is y = 0.25 + .5x for the transformed data (x = time in hours). What would the population be after 4 hours (to 2 decimal places)?
a. 2.25 b. 5.06 c. 177.83 d. 0.35 e. none of these
2. Which of the following should be considered outliers? I. a point with a z-score of 3.9 II. a point that is 1 IQR above Q3 III. a value of 17 from N(5,3)
a. I b. II c. III d. I and III e. II and III
3. Which of the following measures is resistant?
a. mean b. Q1 c. variance d. minimum e. standard deviation
[pictured here should be two identical bell shaped histograms. #1 has a range of 1-10 and #2 has a range of 11-20]
4. According to the histograms above, ,which of the following is true? a. mean1 = mean2, var1 = var2 b. mean1 > mean2, var1 = var2 c. mean1 < mean2, var1 = var2 d. mean1 < mean2, var1 < var2 e. mean1 < mean2, var1 > var2
