I too am new at teaching this course. I try to complete a topic in 3 class periods and use a fourth to summarize and/or to show a video. The kids really enjoy working in groups and find the materials very interesting. The videos I show are segments of Decisions through Data.
I have just completed topic 9 and feel that I will have to do so traditional teaching to explain transforming data. But I am concerned that I am behind and that perhaps this approach is not rigorous enough. However, regardless of how they do on the AP exam, I am convinced that this is a wonderful educational experience. I also have them read Moore's BPS. They have read through sction 2.5
