I am trying to write multiple figures to an eps2 file. My code is:

if(plot_h <= 0)
num_Figs = num_Figs + 1;
plot_h = figure(num_Figs);
else
set(0,'CurrentFigure',plot_h);
clf;
end

num_plots = num_plots+1;

[status,lab] = make_plot() % plots to figure 1

if(num_plots == 1)
%
% put figure in file
%
print('-f1','-depsc2', [f_path,pdffilename]);
else
print('-f1','-depsc2', '-append', [f_path,pdffilename]);
end

I get the following error message:

??? Error using ==> print at 315
EPS file describes a single page, append option is illegal with chosen
PS device

What have I done wrong?
Thanks,
