New AP Stats teacher here.

Is it considered a random sampling if you choose simply choose every other member of the population?

I know it's not an SRS, since every sample does not have an equal chance of being chosen. But neither does every individual, by my way of thinking (if you choose say every odd numbered individual, then no even numbered individual has a chance of being chosen).

However, one of my students said that her science teacher told her to choose a random sample by selecting every other unit.

Thanks.
