It has been exciting to have NYSCEA (NYS Council of Educational Associations of which AMTNYS) as a member of the Teaching Standards committee.
This will be the time for you to make comment on its preliminary draft. The committee will then review the comments, meet again and edit/add/delete based upon those comments. The draft document will then go to the Board of Regents.
On July 16, 2010 Joseph Frey, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Higher Education, sent a memo which included some of the following information. The Teaching Standards ?will be the basis for teacher preparation programs, assessments for certification, annual professional performance reviews, and professional/career development plans for New York teachers.?
The Office of Teaching Initiatives has posted the Preliminary Draft of New York State Teaching Standards and a Web Response Form<http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/resteachers/sbsurveyjul2010.html>with which you may submit your suggestions on web site.
