MATH TOOLS AND tPoWs ORIENTATION SESSIONS
The Math Forum is pleased to announce two new, free orientation
sessions, designed to familiarize you with some of the features
and possibilities of our free services. The self-paced sessions
are one week in length, and include activities followed by
discussion prompts to encourage you to ask questions and/or
discuss the features covered.

a pre-requisite of completing at least one of the Orientation
Sessions. Registration for these workshops opens October 4 for

Jump$tart NATIONAL FINANCIAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE

The Jump$tart Coalition announces its second annual national
educator conference for Pre-K-12 teachers devoted specifically
to personal finance education. The conference is intended to
give classroom educators an opportunity to see, learn about,
and try educational resources that can be integrated
immediately into current lesson plans; to attend workshops
under the three different strands of policy, curriculum/
content, and personal development; and to network with leaders
from finance and education.
The conference runs November 5 - 7, 2010 at the Capital Hilton,
Washington, DC. Teachers may register for a subsidized price of
$350 excluding travel. Ten CEUs will be awarded teachers who
participate in the entire conference. Registrations are
accepted on a first-come first-served basis.

JOURNEY NORTH

Journey North is a world-wide project in which K-12 students
track wildlife migration and the changing the seasons, share
their data with other classrooms, and learn about science,
math, and the world around them in the process. "Journey
South" (tracking fall's progress in the northern hemisphere) is
beginning now, and you can use that program to prepare for
spring's Journey North in your classroom.
Free registration is required to share data online. The
general public is welcome to participate. The site offers
standards-aligned lesson plans and resources for teachers, as
well as a portal for kids.
