There was an experiment that found that animals could very quickly learn the association between a loud noise and an electric shock, or the association between a bitter taste and nausea... but when you try to get an animal to learn that the stimulus of a loud noise is followed by nausea, they just get confused, and don't learn to avoid the loud noise in order to avoid the nausea.
The correlation is not causation conundrum, of course, is solved by finding a _mechanism_ of causation to let us determine which of two correlated things is cause and which is effect, or if both are effects of some antecedent cause - to perhaps answer the OP's attempt to sow confusion. But that evolution has given us "innate ideas" that let us judge what mechanisms seem reasonable, at least in simple everyday low- tech cases should not surprise anyone.
