Celebrate math in two ways this month.
A Gathering 4 Gardner, in celebration of the late Martin Gardner's birthday, will happen October 21. Gatherings will take place worldwide. Don't see one in the works near you? Use G4G's puzzles, illusions, games, and other resources to plan your own party! Read more here: http://www.g4g-com.org/ As part of this celebration, The Mathematical Association of America and ThinkFun will host a reception on October 21 in Washington, DC. Featured speakers include Ivars Peterson, author of _The Mathematical Tourist_ book and blog; ThinkFun's Bill Ritchie; Gardner biographer Dana Richards; puzzlist Eve Torrence, Professor of Mathematics at Randolph Macon College; and Chip Denman, of the National Capital Area Skeptics. Space is limited. Read more or RSVP at: http://maa.org/pubs/G4G2010.html The second event is the first-ever USA Science & Engineering Festival, a two-day expo held on the National Mall in Washington, DC, October 23-24. Over 500 organizations will participate, offering hundreds of hands-on activities. Look for the MAA's banner "Math is Everywhere" to play with Euler square puzzles, fold origami, and take interactive quizzes based on the AMC 8 contest. http://musasciencefestival.org/ The Math Forum learned of these events from tweets by Math in the News, a service of MathDL, the Mathematical Sciences Digital Library. -|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|-\-/-|- TALK TO Wolfram|Alpha IN TeX http://tinyurl.com/24v4fkl W|A now accepts queries in TeX and LaTeX.
