using structured 3d mesh and standard 7-point stencil finite-difference discretization, do i really need 4 colors, which require 4 separate iterations for all nodes?

my understanding is that i only need 2 separate routines.

redblack = 0 for red, 1 for black
do k=1, nz
do j = 1, ny
do i = 1+mod(k+j+redblack,2), nx, 2
p[i,j,k] = ......
enddo

i want to make sure i understood this right. any comments?

thanks in advance.
