She worked as a teacher of English and journalism before "finding her subject" in her second career as a writer. Her subjects included David Hilbert, Richard Courant, Jerzy Neyman, E.T. Bell, and her sister, Julia Robinson.

Her project investigates "the relationships among calculator choices in AP Calculus classes, as well as teacher beliefs that inform the decision about which calculator to use." The workshop will be held July 17-22, 2011 in conjunction with the Park City Mathematics Institute (PCMI) in Park City, UT. Application information is available at the link above.
