The MIRL Activity Library contains engaging activities that
demonstrate everyday applications of mathematics. From baking
chocolate chip cookies to choosing a cell phone plan, the
activities provide learners with valuable life skills in
addition to mathematical understanding. Each workbook contains
10 activities and worked out solutions.

States by the Numbers are MIRL's real-data math adventures
across the United States. Learn about your favorite state by
delving into place values, rounding, estimation, fractions, and
percentages. Each workbook includes basic instructions and 80
practice problems. Additionally, the "What's the big idea?"
pages give learners the opportunity to reflect on the things
they've learned.

Thank you for your help!

PROBLEM SOLVING -- IT HAS TO BEGIN WITH NOTICING AND WONDERING

http://mathforum.org/articles/communicator2010.html

Middle school teacher Marie Hogan observed as the Forum's
Director of Professional Development modeled a full cycle of
the PoWs in Hogan's West Covina (CA) classroom. The article
that Hogan and Suzanne Alejandre co-authored about their
experience appears in this month's issue of the CMC
ComMuniCator, the journal of the California Mathematics Council.

Their article joins several others about implementing problem
solving and writing:
