Kovacic's algorithm in Mathematica?

According "the book" for Mma 3.0, it includes an implementation of Kovacic's algorithm for second order linear ODEs. Does anyone know whether that was already implemented in Mma 2.2? I only have access to 2.2 out here, and it surely seems unable to solve any *irreducible* equation of the form y''[x] + r(x) y[x] == 0 for various r(x). It does solve some reducible equations of the above form, but you don't need Kovacic's algorithm for that.
