Is there a way to disable callbacks while a block of code is run without using code other than matlab?

I have a variable tucked away in a GUI handle that is ending up with two versions. I assume that the callback is happening in the middle of cmd1:n. I would like to disable the interrupts until the block, cmd1:n is complete.
