Isn't the story that Keynes purchased the collected works of Newton, and thereby discovered Newton's lifelong mysticism and interest in subjects that we would today regard as kookery? If so, Keynes did us all a great service. Of course by giving governments permission to endlessly spend money they don't have, Keynes did us all a disservice. So it sort of balances out.
