(previously posted on sci.math.symbolic : May 9, 2011 5:08 PM, no replies sofar )
questions about an excelent set of didactic slides by R. P. Stanley: http://wwwmath.mit.edu/~rstan/transparencies/hooks.pdf :
slide 16: d2(n) and d3(n) do not seem to fit the polynomes for dk(n); cfr http://wwwirma.ustrasbg.fr/~guoniu/papers/p60hdpartconj.pdf pg 7 conjecture 3.2 with which I *do* agree. Strange.
Problem: can anyone please help me understand (and interpret) slide 35 ?? It is extremely frustrating to have succeeded in reconstructing all slides sofar into Mathematicaoneliners (or abouts), cfr http://users.telenet.be/Wouter.Meeussen/NekrasovOkounkov.nb but I'm completely at a loss with this one. Some examples would work wonders for me. Like, what is the result on lhs\rhs partitions\permutations of n=4? And, to make things worse, it's labeled "the Fundamental tool".
Wouter.
