I am plotting a two subplot graphic with a pcolor plot in each subplot (using axes):

fig = figure;
hdnl = axes('Position',[0 0 1 1], 'visible','off');
axes1 = axes('Outerposition',[...],'Parent',fig);
axes2 = axes(...);

...

get(axes1);
pcolor(...,'parent',axes1);
shading interp;

Problem: The pcolor graphic is black. "shading interp" isn't being recognized for axes1 as axes2 is active. I've tried various options along the lines of get(axes1), but I'm not really sure what the right command is and nothing seems to be working. I'm sure it's straightforward...just need a little tip.

thanks!l
