MOEBIUS NOODLES
http://www.naturalmath.com/blog/moebius-noodles-fundraiser/
Maria Droujkova, creator of NaturalMath.com, has launched a project to provide peer-to-peer support for parents who want to enjoy math with their babies and toddlers.
She writes: "There are very few materials and no community support for smart math for babies and toddlers. Just try to find anything that is not about counting or simple shapes! Mathy parents create opportunities for their own kids, of course. But without support and resources, it's very hard even for the rocket scientist mothers and fathers. We want to change that!"
Moebius Noodles is the culmination of thousands of parents and educators collaborating in local math clubs, online classes, grant-funded research, conference presentations, and curriculum development consulting to companies. Sample one of the parent tasks at
http://naturalmath.wikispaces.com/bingo
To kick-start the effort, Droujkova seeks to raise $6,200 through TippingBucket.org, whose motto is "Change the world, or your money back!"

The Moebius Noodles fund-raising campaign ends next Wednesday, September 21st.

PoW taking place: math problem-solving moment of the week
"We had a lot of successful problem solvers submit to this problem, and received a number of thoughtful explanations. Several people mentioned something that I ran into when I solved the problem. This is how Leo, from the Philadelphia School, described it...." - Annie, commenting on the Math Fundamentals PoW's Latest Solution

Now taking place: math education conversation of the hour
"We came to this country in 1965. Our children, 7 and 5 1/2, went to second and first grade respectively. One evening, the younger one announced that they had been doing set theory. So, of course, we asked what that was. His answer was that we wouldn't understand. (He knew of course that we were both mathematicians.) So, I made a set with plates and glasses and another set with plates and silver and asked him what the intersection of these two sets might be. He looked at me somewhat contemptuously and said...."
