If there is a change in the Implementation Timeline, it is not at EngageNY at this time.

I heard that the implementation of the Common Core has been postponed again. Has anyone heard anything definitive on this? June 2012 and 2013 algebra tests based on current NY standards but the common core not tested in algebra until 2014 but of course this is a draft and could change but Ken S, deputy commissioner said that they would not move the date sooner but has to be approved by the board of regents We did express concerns that everyone was going crazy with the changes and that unless something has been passed, that it should say draft and have a disclaimer that it is not set in stone.

So did anyone find out if the 2012 Algebra Regents is gonig to be on the Common Core or the NYS standards. I have a two-year algebra class that has year one this year and I want to make sure we are teaching to the correct items next year.
Thanks, Nancy Schempp

So from my understanding, you are saying that there is no national timeline. Each state can decide its rate of implementation?

not sure what you are asking they had to implement of the standards but could add up to 15% more to the standards as far as implementation, we are ahead of the national adoption by two years for the middle school level and who knows for the high school level as SED officials seem to have a hard time with making a time line and sticking to it and now say it is still under discussion and is a draft--they removed the time line which said Algebra was being adopted for 2012-21013 and now have a draft powerpoint that says 2013-2014--but under discussion

I'm curious. We adopted the common core and received the 700 million dollars. Isn't there anything stating what the implementation needs to be?

One of our district administrators was in Albany this week and she told me that there has been a change in the implementation timeline for CCLS for the high school courses. She said that the Algebra 1 test will NOT be aligned to CCLS for the 2011-2012 school year but has been pushed back to the 2012-2013 school year. She also said that the EngageNY.org website has been changed to reflect this. I have looked at the website for "an announcement" of this, but don't see one. I also checked the timeline and it has changed (looks like line items have been deleted), but I can't determine what is going on. Does anyone know for sure if the date for Algebra 1 (and I assume the follow on Geometry and Algebra 2 courses) have been pushed back a year? This has an impact this school year to any schools that are teaching a 2-year Algebra 1 course (like us) for what we need to cover this year. It will also dictate how much time we will have to rewrite curriculum to incorporate the CCLS (this summer or over the course of next school year and following summer). Thank you, Cindy Kohl East Syracuse Minoa High School
