Announcing Mathomatic version 15.8.0
Mathomatic is a free, portable, command-line computer algebra system that has been under development since 1986. The latest version 15.8.0 is a major enhancement and bugfix release with many noticeable improvements and faster response times. Major improvements were made to simplification, and searching and substitution have been made easier. The Mathomatic code is currently stable, and the user documentation is complete and available in HTML and PDF format. All source code distribution Mathomatic files are freely available and published under the GNU LGPL and FDL licenses.
Mathomatic can symbolically solve, differentiate, simplify, combine, and compare algebraic equations, perform complex number, modular, and polynomial arithmetic, etc. It does some calculus and is very easy to compile, learn, and use. Plotting expressions with gnuplot is also supported and improved.
Mathomatic runs under MS-Windows, Unix, Solaris, GNU/Linux, Mac OS X, and any POSIX compatible operating system. The complete documentation and current pre-compiled executables and packages are available for most platforms at the Mathomatic website. Slightly older versions may be available using your operating system's package manager. Other people have ported Mathomatic to the iPhone and the Android, available at their respective markets for $1.99.
Mathomatic is written in C and includes a simple, yet helpful, command-line interface, and a symbolic math library that is callable from C compatible programs.
Ideas, questions, feedback, suggestions, problem reports, and other contributions are very welcome.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the Mathomatic code base, packaging, porting, etc. And thanks to all the people that contributed their good ideas and support.
