ICME 12- Topic Study Group 13 - Teaching and Learning of Calculus


This Topic Study Group will seek contributions on
the research and development in the teaching and
learning of calculus, both at upper secondary and
tertiary level. Contributions will account for
advances, new trends, and important work done in
recent years on the teaching and learning
processes of Calculus.

Organization of the TSG 13

As usual, TSGs are the prime forum for
participation at ICME-12. At ICME-12, our TSG
will have four one and a half hour timeslots at
our disposal and two general posters sessions. On
the website of ICME-12 it is possible to access
to all relevant documents including long
presentations, short presentations and posters.

Structure of the TSG 13

The organizing committee organized the accepted
papers and posters for TSG 13 in the following

· Four papers (# 278, # 386, # 1346 and # 1420)
were accepted for long presentations.

· A group of 13 papers ( # 156, # 170, # 228, #
556, # 567, # 580, # 908, # 937, # 1077, # 1345 #
1410, # 1632 and # 1648) were accepted for short

· In each session three or four short
presentations and a long one will be delivered.

· Each session will be devoted to an important
topic in Calculus teaching and learning.

· Posters in the general poster session which is common for all TSGs.

The time available only allows for relatively
short presentations by the authors: 10 minutes
for short papers; and 20 minutes for the three
long papers, so the whole group will have at
least half an hour for questions, comments and

The structure for each of the four 90-minute session will include

1. some brief opening remarks by the co-chairs of the committee, followed by

2. a long presentation (20 min each), followed by

3. three or four short paper presentations (10 min each).

4. At the conclusion of each session, there will be a general discussion.

The following timetable for TSG 13 provides
details on the schedule (including timings of
long and short presentations). Poster sessions
are not listed - please refer to the ICME 12 list
of poster presentations.
