It's simply a fact that there always has been and always will be more than one culture in the world. This fact is NOT what is called multiculturalism. See the below for what multiculturalism is.

It's simply a fact that there always has been and always will be more than one culture even in a given society, even if those who are not of the majority culture have to keep their culture at least to some degree a secret and have it exist "underground". (This fact is also NOT what is called multiculturalism. See the below for what multiculturalism is.) An example would be for the last almost couple of thousand years Jewish culture existing in Europe in a society that is populated mostly by people of a Christian culture.

VERY IMPORTANT: One of the main reasons for this fact that there always has been and there always will be different cultures is the fact that people have children and sometimes children reject the culture of their parents and choose to be of a different culture.

The thing to look at is the response to these facts that there always has been and always will be more than one culture.

This is especially true regarding the response by the individual to a culture that is not his or her own.

This response can be violent or nonviolent, and it can include promoting the idea that a response should be nonviolent or should be violent or at least be allowed to be violent at least to some degree.

The violent response that Haim writes about is a response that in its most extreme form says, "All cultures not my own and all people of all cultures not of my own must die!"

This violent response is not of what is called multiculturalism, since included in the very proper definition of multiculturalism is the promotion of the idea that the response to the fact of different cultures should be nonviolent. Included in any proper definition of multiculturalism is how the individual should respond to the fact that cultures other than one's own exist: The response by the individual to the fact that cultures other than one's own exist should be nonviolence and tolerance (no bigotry allowed).

But by the very nature of any definition of monoculturalism, nonviolence and tolerance cannot be any part of said definition. How is this so? Here's how:

The only way to achieve AND ALWAYS MAINTAIN a one-culture-only society is for some set of individuals to decree that there will be allowed to exist one and only one culture in the society and for some set of individuals in order to fulfill this decree be willing to commit at least some level of violence against those who are of a different culture than the one decreed to be acceptable and this includes most importantly the willingness to commit at least some level of violence against those who are born into the society who then later choose to be of a different culture than the one decreed to be acceptable. (This "at least some level of violence" is inescapable since it can mean simply the enforcement of laws against any culture other than the one decreed to be acceptable, where the enforcement of laws always carries with it the potential for violence having to be committed to enforce those laws.)

And so we see that the only way to achieve AND ALWAYS MAINTAIN a one-culture-only society is always to be willing to go after the children who choose differently.

And so we see that any definition of monoculturalism inherently IS NOT about nonviolence and tolerance and that any proper definition of multiculturalism inherently IS about nonviolence and tolerance.

And so we see that the violence that Haim writes about is actually the extreme fruits of monoculturalism and is not about multiculturalism at all. And so we see that Haim is utterly wrong when he blames multiculturalism for that violence - he should be blaming monoculturalism in its extreme form, which is the aforementioned "All cultures not my own and all people of all cultures not of my own must die!"
