I strongly urge everyone to fill out the survey regarding the sample questions. https://www.research.net/s/SAMPLEQUESTIONS
If we fail to state our problems with the content and style of the test now, we will have no right to complain later. It is essential that everyone take a few minutes from their very busy days (believe me, I know how busy we all are right now) and look not only at the questions for your own grade, but at the questions for the grades above and below you. Keep in mind that what you do will directly affect the teacher who is going to have these students the following year, and that you can let the teacher who had them before you know which areas need to be beefed up.
I deeply regret that New York State, has failed to utilize a phase-in period so that we can prepare younger students who will then be better equipped to function within these new standards. Instead, as usual, New York has gone down the wrong path, throwing everyone into the mix at the same time. The first few years will be rough. I really don't understand this move, as when new math courses were introduced at the high school level, they were always phased in, one year at a time.
I wish us all much luck in the coming school year. We will need it.

https://www.research.net/s/SAMPLEQUESTIONS This is the link to the survey for these questions. All I can say is WOW!!! Not sure how I am going to be able to take all of my students to that level!! Time to think about retiring!

Many thanks. I have been looking over the ELA and math sample questions and I am started to get a really cold feeling in the pit of my stomach. Is anyone else out there concerned about this? We have no phase in period - every grade is going on the core at the same time. Some states are phasing it in in grade groups. It looks like we will be teaching common core standards AND playing catch up ball to teach the skills that the students did not learn but are prerequisite for the new skills.

Tzippy,
Scroll to the bottom of the website that was given us. They are organized by grade level.

I am not able to locate sample questions - only a four page pdf file on an overview of what the test will be about. I would love to locate the sample questions. Does anyone have the correct link?

Thanks for posting these. Again, friends, these are sample questions, not sample tests. Our colleagues' evaluations will be based on how well they can get kids to answer questions at this level; therefore, we should all take a look and respond appropriately. Enjoy Regents week!

Hello fellow math teachers, Common Core sample questions are out for review and comments. Each grade 3 - 8 teacher should review these questions and complete the survey. I know we are all swamped with finals, report card grades, etc but this is important to view. In the fall, we will probably have sample tests to review. Right now SED is asking for feedback on these specific questions. Please do respond. These questions are going to be really challenging for my students. All I can say is wow, when I looked at the 7th grade ones. Here is the link. http://www.p12.nysed.gov/apda/common-core-sample-questions/
