Actually, to be honest, we kind of don't.
There's a sense of alienation from these east coast inferiors and their European partners in arms.
Paying tribute to New Rome so it can infect the world with non-democracies (military bases) is hardly our idea of fun. What's in it for us?
We empathize with the people of Okinawa, Kwajalein etc. No sense apologizing for DC's stupidity. We agree it's unforgivable.

Not enough though.
The USA was essentially bankrupt by the early 1980s according to our accounts ("we" being a rather esoteric group that includes some math-savvy -- but with plenty of access to levers of power, so I'm not whining from the fringe).
