System Identification of a first order system

Hi y'all!

I have a question regarding system identification of a first order
system.

Let us assume that the time constant of the first order system is
known, atleast approximately.
How would one go about determining the lowest and highest frequencies
necessary in the Psuedo Random Binary Sequence (PRBS) input to capture
the input-output behaviour of the system?
Once the low and high frequencies are determined, how do you develop a
PRBS signal with that the frequency range [ low freq, high freq] in
Matlab?

I would appreciate any help in this matter.
Please post or email to bala@slip.net.

Thank you.

Bala.
