want to know memory/swap-space demand

Is it possible to find out the peak memory/swap-space demand of a function call in matlab? To illustrate the reasoning for this question: Recently I wanted to show someone how to use a number of m-files I had written, but midway through one of the functions an OUT OF MEMORY error occured. The solution, of course, was to increase the size of the swap file (PACK did not help), but my friend's system administrator could not be reached for a couple of days. It would've been nice to know ahead of time how much memory space the functions demanded.
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions, +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ James M.
