Is there a subsitute for Guimaker2.1 ?

Hi.

I'm at the moment programming a kind of database for an
electrical engineering purpose. It needs a lot of User I/O.
Guimaker 2.1 is the really worst thing I've ever seen to
program a GUI. So is there any possiblity to get another
tool to create a GUI. It doesnt matter if its in the
Matlab environment or together with a MEX-File.
