How do I play 2 movies at the same time, side by side?

I have two image sequences that are 128x128 frames, 50 images long.

I plan to create a new sequence that is a 128x256 frame, 50 long.
Then 1 movie(n) command would show the "two" movies side by side.

Problems: I want different colormaps for the two image sets.
I want to be able to start set #1 at frame x, set #2 at
frame y - then play the movie.
I want to be able to pause, ff, rewind, each of the
image sequeuces individually....

I this I can work around the problems, but is there an easier way to do this?
