Visual C++ 1.51 and Matlab 4.2c.1 and Windows 3.1

Matlab version: 4.2c.1
Compiler: visual C++ 1.51
Platform: Windows 3.1

When I try to use the mex file (or the mathworks provided msvc.mak file
with the recommended changes), I get the following link time error.
Can somebody explain what the problem is ?
