3D Object recognition from 3D Data

Hello together,
I'm trying to sepereate the objects of 3D scanning date. I have an image and meshed polygon data; furthermore I always used a box to seperate the object I want to scann. Sometimes there is also parts of the background plane.
I need something like:
finding the maximum set of points which is included by a bounding box with minimum error...
