Department Introduction:
The University of Denver, the oldest and largest independent
university in the Rocky Mountain Region, is located in the city of
Denver, which is quickly becoming one of the most ethnically diverse
cities in the U.S. Census data show that Denver's population
includes 11.1% Black or African American, 31.7% Hispanic or Latino,
2.8% Asian American, and approximately 1% Native American residents.

The MCE [Morgridge College of Education] is located in the new
Katherine A. Ruffatto Hall, a
65,000 square foot complex providing a flexible, innovative, and
multidisciplinary learning environment. The facility allows for
ongoing dialogue with community, national, and global partners as we
enter a transformational era in education. The facility features
state-of-the-art technology including interactive white boards and
flat-panel displays throughout, two TelePresence videoconferencing
systems, and a Voice-over Internet Protocol (VOIP) integrated
communications system.
Mathematics Education is situated in the Curriculum & Instruction
program in the Morgridge College of Education (MCE). C&I comprises a
Teacher Education program and a Master's, a PhD and newly developed
EdD degree. C&I is part of the Educational Research, Policy, and
Practice Department. The department currently enrolls about 850
students in its 24 degree (MA/MLIS, EdS, EdD and PhD), licensure, and
certificate programs. More than 9,000 MCE graduates live throughout

Position Summary:
The University of Denver's Morgridge College of Education (MCE)
invites applications for a tenure track position in Mathematics
Education at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a dynamic
candidate with a strong background in both mathematics and
mathematics education interested in developing nationally relevant
programs in mathematics education focused on diversity and equity. A
primary responsibility for this position will include contributing to
the development of new programs in mathematics education that are
being offered across academic units at the university. The
responsibilities of the position include maintaining an active
research agenda, teaching courses in mathematics and mathematics
education, advising master's and doctoral students, directing and
serving on dissertations, and other duties as assigned by the program
coordinator.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should have an earned doctorate (or ABD with a graduation
date set before September 1, 2013) in Mathematics Education or
Mathematics with a strong commitment to inclusive excellence and
demonstrated experience working with diverse populations.
Demonstrated experience or demonstrated potential in teaching,
research, and securing external funding are required.
The candidate should have a promising record of scholarship,
teaching, and community engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have an established or emerging research
agenda in mathematics education grounded in diversity, equity and/or
social justice that has clear potential to inform and influence
policies, practices and research.
A strong background in one or more of the following areas is desired:
college access and preparation in mathematics, formative assessment
formats, program evaluation, innovative instructional technologies,
development and ongoing support of community partnerships,
professional development for understanding, and retention and
persistence in mathematics.
The successful candidate should also have a strong interest in
connecting mathematics education across P-20 settings and in working
with community stakeholders.
Candidates with expertise using multiple research methodologies are
especially desirable.
Preference will be given to candidates who have prior professional
experiences developing programs related to mathematics education
specifically meant to improve access and opportunities for students
of color and students living in poverty.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The
appointment will commence on September 1, 2013.
