PoW taking place: math problem-solving moment of the week

"The first thing I did when I saw this problem was to look
through my notes and find the properties of a rhombus. But
when I looked for a while at the problem, I realized this
figure, with its given measurements, cannot exist! The side
lengths are fine, the angles are fine -- at least until I
looked at an invisible triangle. For the extra, I tried for
several hours but failed to find a number that would work to
make every side length and angle accurate, but I know there is
a number to make this problem true. I have simply not found
it yet."

- Hillary, highlighted in the Geometry PoW's latest solution

MOEBIUS NOODLES

http://www.moebiusnoodles.com/TheBook

Moebius Noodles has come out!

Each chapter of this new book -- subtitled "adventurous math
for the playground crowd" -- has light bulb ideas for warm-ups
and on the go activities; games with variations for babies,
toddlers, older kids, and adults; and colorful posters that
tell stories about each game's main idea through pictures that
invite readers to play, ask questions, and "notice
unexpected math."

The fund-raising campaign for Moebius Noodles appeared in these
pages a year and a half ago. Pre-order a paperback edition of
the resulting "plug and play" book, or "name your price" and
download a PDF version by following the link above.

Using the book's associated question and answer hub, readers
have already begun discussing more than a dozen questions and
issues, such as

- Non-competitive math games
- What are some suggestions for increasing fluency in
addition and multiplication without rote, timed practice?
- Problem remembering numbers
- How to deal with "kindergarten math is boring"?

Now taking place: math education conversation of the day

"You can make each poly by multiplying each row by itself but
after transposing, i.e., do an outer product."
