uigetfile and Mapped Network Drive

My script has a uigetfile function call with this syntax:
[FileName,PathName,FilterIndex] = uigetfile(FilterSpec,DialogTitle,DefaultName)
If my DefaultName is set to a location on my local C drive, everything works.
If my DefaultName is set to a location on a mapped drive (such as J:), it looks as though that line of code gets skipped. I do not get an error message until FileName is called and does not exist because the gui window never popped up to select a file.

I am running R2010a Windows 7 64-bit. I have read/write permissions for this mapped network drive. For the script to be useful, it needs to work with a mapped drive. Any ideas on what could cause/fix this?
Thanks.
