Experience of digital abacus in classroom

Has anybody any experience with using touchpads or smartphones in class when trying to teach Mental abacus (or any other subject for that matter)? I find real books and abacus frames more reliable, but there is so much available for Android devices nowadays that it would be a shame not to look into them.
