Looks like a good device to hack on in your 10th grade HTML5 class.
Library could have a few to lend out.

Tablets are different than smartphones in that the latter come with phone
numbers so tend to be pegged to people.

Tablets are easy to check out for the day. Any given individual might use
three or four in the course of a week.
