Update: it was easy enough to create a 2-valued data set for each group as I had suggested above, and the resulting chart looks fine. If anyone is aware of how to create a nicer-looking figure similar to the one in the link above, which includes horizontal lines, that would be nice to know. But for my purposes, I suppose that the simple plot that can be generated in Matlab is "good enough".
