************************************ Sent at the request of Steven Greenstein. ************************************ The Department of Mathematical Sciences invites applications for two tenure-track positions in Mathematics Education at the Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor level.
Starting date is September 1, 2014. In particular we invite applications for:
1. (V #F29) Full/Associate/Assistant Professor Mathematics Education. The department seeks candidates with particular research interests in mathematics education at the undergraduate/post-secondary level.
2. (V #F30) Full/Associate/Assistant Professor Mathematics Education. The department seeks candidates with particular research interests in elementary and middle school mathematics education.
Faculty filling these positions will be expected to support existing departmental programs at the undergraduate and graduate level; teach and mentor students in the growing Ed.D. in Mathematics Education, the MS Mathematics with a concentration in Mathematics Education, the MA in Teaching Middle Grades mathematics; teach undergraduate and graduate mathematics for elementary, middle and high school teachers and possibly teach mathematics courses; support post-baccalaureate and graduate students seeking their initial certification to teach mathematics. Applicants must have a strong commitment to research in mathematics education and to perform research that will allow the generation of competitive grant proposals. Faculty are expected to teach a broad range of courses at the undergraduate level and a specialized set of courses at the graduate level and are expected to participate in departmental, university and professional activities.
To build on already significant strength and interdisciplinary connections at Montclair State University, we are recruiting new faculty as part of a long term cluster hiring initiative in STEM Education. This year this inter-departmental endeavor will bring in faculty in Mathematics Education and Biology Education to help create programs of national renown in areas of STEM Education. We seek outstanding applicants who can work across disciplines as part of a growing team initiative to pursue critical issues in Mathematics and STEM Education.
A Doctorate in Mathematics Education with a background in Mathematics at the Masters level or a Doctorate in Mathematics with significant work experience in mathematics education is required. All candidates should provide a record of scholarly publication, research and teaching success. Preferred qualifications include successful teaching at the K-12 level.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Montclair State University includes undergraduate programs in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Physics, and Master's programs in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Statistics, and an Ed.D. in Mathematics Education. There are thirty full-time faculty in the department. Montclair State University is the second largest public university in New Jersey and is located 15 miles west of New York City in close proximity to major pharmaceutical, financial, and research centers.
