The Ferris State University Mathematics Department invites
applications for a tenure track assistant professor position to begin
August 2014.

The position requires a PhD in pure or applied mathematics, or a PhD
in mathematics education with master's equivalent mathematics
background. The PhD must be completed by the time of appointment.
Responsibilities include: teaching developmental, general education,
and program-related courses; maintaining a program of continued
professional development that focuses on teaching; participating on
departmental, college, and university committees; performing academic
advising duties; and holding regular office hours.

Ferris State University is a mid-sized four-year comprehensive
university located 50 miles north of Grand Rapids. The Mathematics
Department has 15 tenure line and 12 non-tenure line faculty. The
Department is developing an actuarial science major and revising its
applied mathematics, secondary mathematics education, and general
education programs. Given this period of change, the Department seeks
an energetic, innovative individual with excellent teaching potential.

Interested applicants must submit a cover letter, a statement of
teaching philosophy, a curriculum vitae, copies of academic
transcripts, and the contact information (name, email, phone number,
and address) of at least three references. In the cover letter, the
candidate should outline her/his potential for making a contribution
as an effective, innovative instructor. The statement of philosophy
should include: information about the candidate's knowledge and/or
use of a variety of approaches to instruction; views on
student-centered instruction; strategies on how to motivate, inspire,
and support student thinking and learning; and evidence of effective
instruction. At least two of the references must be able to address
the candidate's teaching.
