Equn of hyperbolas of the sort you mention

(x - c1) * ( y - c2) = (+/-) c3^2

Using two points you wish to satisfy c1 and c2 are solved for, only one constant c3 is left out, which when varied produces hyperbolas of different pointednesses.


In Mathematica there is a manipulate command, but it is advanced maybe for college.
